The Palestinian Red Crescent Society has confirmed that 127 Palestinians, including 85 children, have died from starvation and severe malnutrition in Gaza. This heartbreaking toll is the direct result of Israel’s continued blockade of aid and enforcement of a man-made famine, as its brutal military assault and siege on the Gaza Strip persists.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel has launched a relentless war on Gaza, marked by indiscriminate bombings, targeted destruction of civilian infrastructure, and a near-total blockade on essential supplies. Over 58,000 Palestinians have been killed and hundreds of thousands wounded, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. Israel has not only targeted homes, schools, hospitals, and refugee camps, but has also crippled food and aid distribution systems.

The death toll from starvation now stands at 127, most of them children, a horrifying testament to the scale of the humanitarian crisis. Despite calls from international humanitarian agencies, Israel continues to block food and medical aid from entering Gaza through key border crossings. Images of severely malnourished children and desperate families have shocked the world, while Gaza’s health and relief systems have collapsed under pressure.

Israel’s actions have sparked growing anger across the Global South and parts of Europe. International human rights organizations have warned that deliberate starvation of a civilian population constitutes a war crime. The blockade has severely undermined regional stability, strained Israel’s relations even with allies, and amplified calls for sanctions and accountability measures.

The situation in Gaza is catastrophic. Families are forced to drink contaminated water, scavenge for food, and endure the trauma of daily airstrikes. Children are dying in their parents’ arms from hunger while food convoys sit blocked at the border. Israel’s refusal to allow aid through Rafah and Kerem Shalom crossings has directly contributed to the famine. It is not only bombing Palestinians but starving them systematically, a crime against humanity.

Several humanitarian groups and UN officials have condemned Israel’s blockade. UN Special Rapporteurs have called it a “deliberate policy of starvation.” While the U.S. and some Western allies continue to offer political cover to Israel, grassroots movements and some governments have demanded an immediate ceasefire and unrestricted aid access. International legal bodies are also exploring evidence for possible prosecution of war crimes.

As the world watches in horror, Israel continues its dual assault on Gaza: one by bombs, the other by starvation. With no significant intervention yet, the death toll is expected to rise. Aid remains blocked at the borders, while children die in silence. Without urgent global action, Gaza may face a full-scale humanitarian collapse in the coming days.
