October 16, 2026, marks the second anniversary of the martyrdom of the resistance leader, Yahya Sinwar.
On October 16, 2024, the leader of Hamas embraced martyrdom not in a tunnel, not in hiding, but on the frontlines in a direct firefight with the Israeli occupation forces in Rafah, fighting till his last breath. Hamas confirmed his martyrdom two days later.
Years before the Al-Aqsa Flood, he had said a sentence that today stands as a prophecy:
“This city (Gaza) will expose all supporters of Israel and hypocrites.”
Gaza did. And it continues to do so.
It exposed who truly stands with Palestine, and who only uses it for speeches. It exposed the gap between professed solidarity and real political action. It exposed every collaborator, every silent regime, every hypocrite.
Born in 1962 in the Khan Younis refugee camp, a refugee in his own land Sinwar rose from the heart of dispossession to become one of the earliest members of the Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas. He helped establish its internal security apparatus, the pillar that protected the resistance from infiltration.
He spent more than 22 years in the dungeons of the Israeli occupation, enduring torture and solitary confinement, before he was freed in the historic 2011 Wafa al-Ahrar prisoner exchange for Gilad Shalit. He came out of prison not broken, but stronger and returned to Gaza to lead.
In 2017, he became the leader of the resistance in Gaza. He was the principal architect of the historic October 7, 2023 operation Al-Aqsa Flood when the resistance shattered the myth of the invincible occupation, allegedly killing 1,200 settlers and taking 251 prisoners, rewriting the rules of the conflict forever.
In August 2024, after the martyrdom of Ismail Haniyeh, the resistance entrusted him with its highest responsibility Chief of the Political Bureau.
From the refugee camp, to the prison cell, to the battlefield of Rafah where he fell as a fighter his life was the story of Palestine itself.
On his second martyrdom anniversary, remembrance of Sinwar is not just about a man. It is about a promise that Gaza will continue to expose every hypocrite, and that the path of resistance for the liberation of Palestine will live on.
