The Grand Mufti of Oman, Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamad al-Khalili, urged the Muslim world on Thursday to unite in response to what he described as Zionist treachery and ongoing aggression against Lebanon. His statement emphasized the need for solidarity among Muslim nations and communities in the face of rising tensions and conflict in the region.

The call comes amid a long-standing and complex conflict involving Israel and various actors in Lebanon, particularly armed groups operating near the southern border. Periodic escalations between the two sides have resulted in military exchanges, with civilians often caught in the crossfire. The broader regional dispute has historical roots tied to territorial issues, political alliances, and unresolved tensions dating back decades.

In recent developments, cross-border attacks and retaliatory strikes have intensified, raising fears of a wider conflict. Reports indicate increased military activity along the Lebanon–Israel frontier, with both sides exchanging warnings and demonstrating readiness for further escalation. Diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation have so far shown limited progress.

Strategically, the situation poses risks not only to Lebanon and Israel but to the wider Middle East. A prolonged or expanded conflict could draw in regional powers, disrupt trade routes, and further destabilize already fragile political environments. The Grand Mufti’s statement reflects concerns that disunity among Muslim nations may weaken collective responses to such crises.

The humanitarian impact is also a growing concern, with civilians in affected areas facing displacement, infrastructure damage, and limited access to essential services. International organizations have warned about the potential for worsening conditions if hostilities continue unchecked, particularly for vulnerable populations.

Reactions to the Mufti’s call have been mixed. Some religious and political figures across the Muslim world have echoed the message of unity and support for Lebanon, while others have emphasized the need for diplomatic solutions and restraint. Global actors, including international bodies, continue to call for de-escalation and dialogue to prevent further violence.

The situation remains fluid, with uncertainty surrounding the next steps of both military and diplomatic efforts. While calls for unity and action grow louder, the path forward will likely depend on a combination of regional cooperation, international mediation, and developments on the ground in the coming days.
