Jordan proposes to exile 3,000 Hamas members from Gaza igniting widespread outrage and condemnation from Palestinian supporters globally. This plan, aimed at ending the ongoing conflict in Gaza, involves disarming Hamas and other militant factions, allowing the Palestinian Authority to take control of the territory according to American and Palestinian sources.
Critics argue that this move would undermine the Palestinian resistance, empowering Israel’s occupation and further entrenching its control over Palestinian territories. The timing of this proposal raises eyebrows, coming amid an intensifying Israeli military campaign in Gaza that has claimed over 50,000 Palestinian lives and wounded over 113,000 others since October 2023.
Hamas, one of the key Islamic resistance group in Gaza, has been fighting against Israeli occupation. Despite repeatedly offering truces and negotiating peace agreements, including a proposed 10-year hudna (armistice) in exchange for Israeli withdrawal from occupied territories and recognition of Palestinian statehood, Israel has consistently rejected these offers.
In a related development, UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed has urged Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to accept between 500,000 and 700,000 Palestinians from Gaza, threatening to withdraw billions in aid if Egypt refuses . This move has sparked concerns about the fate of Palestinian refugees and the potential consequences of such a massive relocation.
