Hamas Offers Hostage Release for Permanent Ceasefire as Israel Continues Strikes.

Released hostage Ohad Ben Ami, wrapped in an Israeli flag, arrives by helicopter at Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center – Ichilov Hospital, on February 8 in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Hamas has announced readiness to release all Israeli hostages in exchange for a guaranteed permanent ceasefire and a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza under President Donald Trump’s proposed plan. The movement also agreed to hand over Gaza’s administration to a Palestinian body of independent technocrats. Despite this significant move, no ceasefire has been declared, and Israeli bombardments continue across Gaza.

The proposal marks a major diplomatic opening, yet Israel’s government has dismissed it outright. Hamas’s acceptance challenges the narrative that it seeks endless war placing the onus back on Washington and Tel Aviv. The group has agreed to begin immediate negotiations to finalize the details, effectively exposing who truly stands in the way of ending the bloodshed.

Observers say Israel’s insistence on military dominance, buffer zones, and external control of Gaza including Trump’s floated idea of foreign “managers” like Tony Blair undermines any hope of peace. These added conditions were never part of the original plan accepted by Arab and Muslim nations. Analysts note this maneuvering lets Israel stall diplomacy while continuing operations on the ground.

As mediation attempts intensify, Israel’s strikes on Gaza City and surrounding areas have escalated. Civilian casualties mount daily, with hospitals, shelters, and aid convoys repeatedly hit. International watchdogs warn that collective punishment and deprivation of essentials like food, fuel, and medicine violate humanitarian law and may constitute war crimes.

Global reactions are divided. Turkey, Qatar, and several European states have urged restraint and negotiations, while the United States and the U.K. remain reluctant to hold Israel accountable. Their continued arms support and diplomatic cover have drawn widespread condemnation from human-rights groups, who accuse them of enabling atrocities under the guise of “self-defense.”

With no ceasefire in sight, Gaza’s humanitarian catastrophe deepens. More than a year into the onslaught, international institutions are demanding accountability and unrestricted aid access. As Hamas extends a rare diplomatic gesture, Israel’s response guided by military force and political defiance threatens to turn a potential peace into yet another chapter of devastation and moral collapse.
