India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Israel on Wednesday in a move widely seen as reinforcing New Delhi’s deepening strategic alignment with Tel Aviv. The visit was announced by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who said Modi would address the Knesset during his trip.

‎Speaking at the start of a cabinet meeting in Jerusalem, Netanyahu praised the expanding relationship between the two governments, citing growing cooperation in economic, diplomatic and security sectors. He described bilateral ties as having strengthened significantly and said the visit would further consolidate that partnership.

‎Modi’s trip will mark his first visit to Israel since 2017, when he became the first Indian prime minister to travel to the country. Netanyahu paid a return visit to India in 2018, symbolizing a shift in relations that has since accelerated.

‎Over the past decade, India and Israel ties have expanded rapidly, particularly in defense and security cooperation. Israel has become one of India’s leading arms suppliers, providing drones, missile systems, surveillance equipment and border management technologies. Intelligence-sharing and counterterrorism collaboration have also deepened.

‎While India officially maintains support for a two-state solution to the Palestinian conflict, its diplomatic posture in recent years has reflected a closer strategic alignment with Israel. New Delhi has continued defense cooperation and high-level engagement even during periods of heightened conflict in Gaza.

‎The visit comes amid ongoing regional tensions, with observers noting that discussions are likely to focus on defense collaboration, technology partnerships and broader geopolitical coordination.
