Pakistan has firmly rejected speculation that it may join the Abraham Accords, with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar reaffirming that Islamabad’s position on Israel remains unchanged until an independent Palestinian state is established.

Speaking at a press conference in Washington D.C. on Friday, Dar dismissed reports suggesting that Pakistan was under pressure to normalize relations with Israel as part of a broader regional diplomatic initiative reportedly backed by US President Donald Trump.

“The rumors circulating that Pakistan has been told to join the Abraham Accords are false,” Dar said. “Pakistan’s policy remains clear and consistent: until Palestine is recognized and established on its pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, there can be no change in our position.”

His remarks come after Trump publicly called on several Muslim-majority nations, including Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Türkiye, to join an expanded Abraham Accords framework. The US president described normalization with Israel as a key step toward a more integrated and stable Middle East amid ongoing negotiations surrounding the Iran crisis.

However, Islamabad swiftly shut down any suggestion that it was reconsidering its long-standing stance.

Pakistan does not recognize Israel and has maintained for decades that diplomatic relations can only be established after a just resolution of the Palestinian issue. Successive governments, regardless of political affiliation, have upheld support for an independent Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The statement is likely to be welcomed by large sections of Pakistani society, where public support for the Palestinian cause remains strong. Major political parties, religious organizations, and civil society groups have consistently opposed normalization with Israel in the absence of Palestinian statehood.

Dar’s comments also come at a time when Pakistan has played an increasingly active diplomatic role in regional affairs, engaging with Gulf states, China, and the United States as tensions continue to shape the Middle East.

By publicly rejecting the Abraham Accords proposal, Pakistan has signaled that despite shifting geopolitical dynamics and international pressure, its official position on Palestine remains unchanged.
