A deadly suicide bombing struck Lakki Marwat after an explosives-laden tri-wheeler detonated in the crowded Naurang Bazaar area, killing at least seven people and injuring more than 23 others, including women and children. The powerful explosion ripped through the busy market, causing widespread panic as rescue teams and security personnel rushed to the scene. Authorities confirmed that investigations into the bombing are ongoing while security has been tightened across the district.

‎The attack comes amid a broader rise in militant violence across Pakistan. On Saturday, 9 May, a suicide blast involving a “Zarang” rickshaw was followed by an armed assault on Fateh Khel Police Station near Bannu Cantt. Earlier, on 4 May, respected scholar and former MPA Maulana Sheikh Idrees was assassinated in Charsadda while traveling to his madrassa. Militant group Islamic State Khorasan Province later claimed responsibility for the killing, while suspicion has also fallen on factions linked to Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan in recent attacks across the region.

‎The repeated targeting of innocent civilians, marketplaces, police stations, and Islamic scholars has triggered widespread anger, with many condemning militant groups for spreading fear and bloodshed in already vulnerable areas. Analysts warn that attacks carried out by groups such as TTP and ISKP continue to threaten Pakistan’s stability by deliberately targeting ordinary citizens and respected religious figures in an effort to destabilize society and undermine security.

‎Security forces have intensified operations and intelligence-based raids in several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following the recent attacks. Officials say efforts are underway to dismantle militant networks involved in bombings and targeted killings, amid fears that terrorist groups are attempting to revive instability in the region through coordinated attacks on both civilians and state institutions.
