‎The International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS) has issued a stern condemnation following a Pakistani airstrike on a major drug rehabilitation hospital in Kabul. The Union expressed deep concern over the shedding of Muslim blood and the destruction of critical infrastructure, reporting that the attack resulted in numerous deaths and injuries. Describing the event as one of the “gravest and most destructive sins,” the scholarly body emphasized that such violence is particularly painful as it occurred during the final ten days of the blessed month of Ramadan.

‎The incident is the latest escalation in a series of cross-border hostilities between Pakistan and the Taliban-led government in Afghanistan. Tensions have peaked over the last three weeks, with Pakistan citing counterterrorism needs to justify its operations. However, the targeting of a prominent medical facility in the Afghan capital has shifted the international focus from security concerns to the protection of civilian life and religious sanctity.

‎Following the strike on the Omid Addiction Treatment Hospital, the IUMS has officially called upon the Pakistani government and military leadership to cease all such actions immediately. The Union is demanding the formation of a transparent, impartial committee to investigate the violations and the resulting loss of innocent lives. Simultaneously, they are urging both neighboring states to halt fighting in adherence to the rights of neighborliness and Islamic jurisprudence.

‎The targeting of a major facility within the Afghan capital represents a significant shift in the rules of engagement. This scholarly intervention marks a significant diplomatic pressure point, as it frames the military action not just as a political dispute, but as a religious and moral transgression. By calling for the revival of Qatari-Turkish mediation efforts, the Union is attempting to pull the conflict away from total warfare and back toward a regional diplomatic framework.

‎The IUMS highlighted that the strike is a blatant violation of international laws and norms that strictly prohibit the targeting of healthcare facilities. Beyond the legal breach, the Union underscored the religious gravity of the act, noting that the sanctity of human life is magnified during Ramadan. The destruction of a place of healing has left vulnerable populations in Kabul without essential medical care and in a state of profound humanitarian distress.

‎In a joint statement, Secretary-General Dr. Ali Muhammad Al-Sallabi and President Prof. Dr. Ali Mohiuddin Al-Qaradaghi reminded both nations of the Quranic injunctions against killing believers and the necessity of reconciliation. The Union has announced its readiness to intervene through its leadership and secretariat to support a serious negotiation process. They emphasized that “reconciliation is better” and urged both sides to “incline to peace” to preserve the dignity and strength of the Muslim world.
