Palestine Action Coalition Of Pakistan denounces PM Shehbaz’s statement regarding Global Sumud Flotilla.

Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has come under sharp criticism after posting an official tweet in which he incorrectly named the Pakistani delegation of the Global Sumud Flotilla, misrepresenting those truly representing Pakistan. The mistake has sparked fresh debate over the government’s inconsistent stance on the Palestinian cause. The Palestine Action Coalition of Pakistan, which sent the Pakistani delegation to the Global Sumud Flotilla, has formally denounced this statement, calling it misleading and unacceptable, while also rejecting what it described as the government’s “double standards” on the Palestinian issue.

The Global Sumud Flotilla is a civilian-led effort carrying aid and solidarity to Gaza, challenging Israel’s blockade. Delegations from several countries have joined the mission despite risks, while in Pakistan, public support for the flotilla has been strong. Against this backdrop, Sharif’s blunder raised eyebrows at a highly sensitive moment.

In his tweet, the Prime Minister mentioned unknown names as part of Pakistan’s team, while at the same time issuing a statement of solidarity with Palestine. The contradiction has highlighted the gap between rhetoric and reality, especially when placed alongside his earlier acceptance of Trump’s so-called Gaza “Peace” Plan a proposal widely rejected by Palestinians as legitimizing occupation. The Coalition emphasized that this contradictory approach was a betrayal of the cause, pointing out how Sharif had just days earlier welcomed the very plan that Palestinians rejected.

Critics argue that Sharif’s shifting stance exposes a double standard: appearing to support Palestine when politically convenient, yet aligning with policies that undermine Palestinian rights. This not only risks weakening Pakistan’s credibility but also damages the trust of its own citizens who expect firm and consistent leadership on such a crucial issue. The Palestine Action Coalition underscored this by declaring: “We reject! We condemn! We do not accept!” a direct rebuke aimed at the Prime Minister’s handling of the matter.

Meanwhile, the humanitarian reality remains unchanged. Gaza continues to suffer under siege, with civilians deprived of freedom, security, and basic necessities. The flotilla represents a rare act of global solidarity, but political missteps and mixed messaging risk overshadowing its impact.

The backlash to Sharif’s tweet reflects wider frustration with leaders who exploit the Palestinian cause in words but falter in action. For many, it has become a symbol of political hypocrisy support on paper, betrayal in practice. For the Flotilla, the question remains whether Pakistan’s leadership will rise to meet the moment with genuine resolve, or continue to hide behind empty statements while its people demand unwavering solidarity.
