Israeli media reports say the Israeli occupation army has confirmed that it now controls around 5% of Lebanon’s territory, marking a significant expansion of its ground presence inside the country. The reported advance comes amid the ongoing invasion of southern Lebanon and intensifying military operations along the border.
The territorial expansion is said to be the result of continued Israeli incursions into southern Lebanese areas, where forces have pushed deeper while carrying out heavy bombardment and demolition operations. Entire villages have reportedly faced systematic destruction as military activity widens.
According to the reports, Israeli forces are advancing with the strategic objective of reaching the Litani River, a waterway long viewed as militarily significant in Israeli security planning. Control of areas up to the river would create a deeper buffer zone inside Lebanese territory.
Southern Lebanon has witnessed repeated waves of airstrikes, artillery shelling, and displacement since the escalation of fighting. Civilian infrastructure, homes, roads, and agricultural land in several border communities have suffered extensive damage.
Analysts warn that occupying and holding larger portions of Lebanese land risks triggering a prolonged conflict and widening regional instability. Any attempt to establish a permanent security belt could intensify resistance activity and deepen cross-border confrontation.
The reported control of 5% of Lebanon highlights the scale of the current escalation and raises renewed concerns over sovereignty, displacement, and the future of southern Lebanon. With military operations continuing, the situation remains volatile and open to further expansion
