Journalist Anas Al-Sharif martyred in Gaza city by Israeli occupation forces.

In another blatant act of brutality, Israeli forces have martyred Al Jazeera journalist Anas al-Sharif and four of his colleagues in a targeted strike on a tent housing journalists in Gaza City, a chilling example of Israel’s relentless assault that spares neither medics, nor journalists, nor civilians.

Al Jazeera correspondent Anas Al-Sharif, renowned for his fearless reporting from Gaza, was martyred on Sunday night in an Israeli strike. His death comes months after he penned a final message, prepared for the event of his assassination, vowing to remain the unwavering voice of his people until his last breath.

Gaza has been under relentless bombardment for over a year and a half, with Israeli forces conducting continuous military operations. Journalists in the enclave have faced unprecedented dangers, with dozens killed while documenting the conflict. AlSharif, based in Khan Younis, was among the most prominent voices exposing the humanitarian crisis to the world.

Following Al-Sharif’s martying, his April 6 testament was released on social media by his team. In it, he spoke of living “the pain in all its details” and never hesitating to convey the truth without distortion, despite repeated grief and loss. His final words highlight both his dedication to journalism and his condemnation of global silence toward Gaza’s suffering. He expressed profound grief over being forced to leave his wife, Bayan, behind in the war zone, and the pain of knowing he would not see his young son, Salah, and daughter, Sham, grow up. His story underscores the staggering human cost of Israel’s relentless assault, which has shown a blatant disregard for the lives and dignity of those trapped under siege.

Al Jazeera issued a statement condemning the killing and called for accountability under international law. Human rights organizations reiterated demands for independent investigations into the targeting of journalists in Gaza. Supporters and colleagues worldwide have expressed grief, describing Al-Sharif as “a voice that refused to be silenced.”

Al-Sharif’s death adds to the growing toll on Gaza’s press corps, further limiting the flow of independent information from the besieged territory. Calls for accountability are mounting, but with no clear enforcement mechanism, it remains uncertain whether those responsible will face justice. His legacy, however, is expected to endure as a symbol of resistance and truth-telling under fire
