A powerful explosion outside Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort metro station in New Delhi on Monday evening killed at least eight people and left several others injured, according to Delhi Police. The blast, reportedly triggered by a CNG cylinder inside a parked car, sent flames and debris across the congested area. Seven fire tenders were dispatched as police cordoned off the site and placed the capital on high alert.

The intensity of the explosion shattered nearby windows and was heard across adjoining neighborhoods, causing panic among residents and commuters. Visuals from the scene showed plumes of fire and smoke rising from burning vehicles, as emergency workers battled to control the blaze and rescue the injured. Senior police and forensic teams are currently investigating the cause of the incident.

Officials have stated there is no immediate confirmation of a terror link, though all possibilities are being examined. The area surrounding the Red Fort, one of India’s most visited historical landmarks, has been sealed off for safety and evidence collection. Hospitals have been instructed to remain on standby as authorities assess the full extent of casualties.

The explosion has raised serious questions about public safety and infrastructure management in one of the country’s most heavily guarded zones. Experts note that CNG-related incidents have become increasingly frequent in urban areas due to poor maintenance and weak regulatory oversight. The Delhi government has called for an urgent review of safety measures around high-density sites.

Across the capital, heightened security checks have been introduced at metro stations, markets, and monuments. Law enforcement agencies have urged citizens to remain calm and avoid sharing unverified information online, as misinformation can hinder ongoing investigations.

As of now, emergency operations continue at the site, and officials are expected to release further details once forensic analysis is complete. The cause of the blast remains under investigation, with police emphasizing that public safety remains the top priority as the city recovers from the shock of the deadly explosion.
