Reportedly 200 Protesters Martyred as Pakistani Forces Crack Down on Gaza Solidarity March.

In a shocking display of state violence, nearly 200 protesters were martyred in the early hours of Monday as Pakistani security forces opened fire on demonstrators marching in solidarity with Gaza. The crackdown took place while most of the nation slept, leaving widespread outrage and grief in its wake.

The protest, led by Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), began in Lahore on Friday with the aim of reaching Islamabad to stage a peaceful sit-in outside the US embassy in support of Gaza and the Palestinian people. The march was part of a growing wave of public anger over Israel’s ongoing assault on Gaza and perceived global silence.

On Sunday night, law enforcement agencies, including the Pakistan Rangers (Punjab) and large police contingents from five districts, reportedly surrounded the TLP protest camp in Muridke before launching a pre-dawn operation. Witnesses report that live ammunition and tear gas were used against protesters. In response to the unrest, major highways and institutions have been shut down across several cities. Lahore authorities have closed key routes including the M-2 Motorway (Lahore-Islamabad)M-3 Motorway (Lahore-Abdul Hakeem), and M-11 Motorway (Sialkot-Lahore). Several roads, motorways, and educational institutes in IslamabadRawalpindiLahore, and Karachi remain sealed.

The incident has intensified political instability in Pakistan at a time of mounting public discontent over domestic governance and foreign policy alignment. The brutal response risks inflaming nationwide protests and could strain relations with countries perceived as backing Israel, as well as test Pakistan’s commitment to free assembly and its stance on Palestine.

The large-scale killing of unarmed demonstrators has drawn condemnation from human rights observers and civil society groups, who warn of a deepening human rights crisis. Reports of wounded protesters being denied medical care have surfaced, while communication blackouts in affected areas have hampered information flow.

Political and religious groups across the spectrum have condemned the operation, demanding an immediate judicial inquiry and the resignation of those responsible. International observers and diaspora communities have called for an independent investigation into the killings, urging global human rights organizations to intervene.

As tensions mount, Pakistan remains on high alert with widespread closures and heavy deployments across major cities. The situation is fluid, with further protests expected as anger continues to rise over what many describe as a “massacre of conscience” against those marching for Gaza.
