Iran's Supreme leader slams U.S demand of limiting uranium enrichment declaring "Iran is not waiting for anyone's permission.

Tehran, Iran — Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has dismissed U.S. demands for limitations on Iran’s nuclear enrichment program, declaring ongoing indirect negotiations between Tehran and Washington as effectively on the brink of failure.

In a recent statement, Khamenei said, “We have indirect negotiations now, which I do not think will come to any conclusion.” The remarks mark one of the clearest indications yet that diplomatic efforts to revive or revise the nuclear framework between the two nations are faltering.

Khamenei went on to sharply criticize U.S. political discourse surrounding Iran’s nuclear activities, calling out what he described as condescending rhetoric from American officials. “Try not to talk nonsense,” he said. “It is a big mistake to say that we will not allow Iran to enrich. Iran is not waiting for permission for this.”

Iran has consistently defended its right to pursue nuclear technology under the framework of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), accusing the United States of hypocrisy and double standards. While Washington demands limitations from Iran, it remains one of the world’s largest nuclear powers and has shown little willingness to address its own stockpiles or regional military presence.

The collapse of negotiations—if confirmed—would mark yet another setback in the strained relationship that has deteriorated further since the U.S. unilaterally withdrew from the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) during Donald Trump’s presidency. Despite global criticism and warnings from international allies, the U.S. imposed maximum pressure sanctions that have since devastated Iran’s economy and escalated tensions across the region.

Analysts say that without meaningful compromise and a shift away from coercive diplomacy, the possibility of a renewed nuclear accord continues to fade, leaving the Middle East exposed to deeper instability.
